Yamashita was born in Neyagawa, Osaka in 2001 and started playing golf when she was five years old.
She has a trio of victories on the LPGA Tour, including this past week, with a final-round charge that led to a playoff with Lottie Woad at Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give.
Her wins also include a Major Championship at the 2025 AIG Women's Open and the 2025 Maybank Championship.
Her best result of 2026 prior to her victory is a third place finish at the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G in May.
She turned professional and joined the LPGA of Japan Tour (JLPGA) in 2020. She earned 13 wins including three major championships between April 2021 and November 2024 on the JLPGA.
She made 12 starts on the LPGA Tour prior to earning Membership, including a runner-up finish at the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Yamashita earned medalist honors at the Final Qualifying portion of LPGA Q-Series to earn LPGA Membership for the 2025 season.
